Laurent LETOURMY
Né en 1973 / born in 1973
Architect, Laurent Letourmy first trained his eye with Martial Raysse, before turning to architecture, which he then taught at the Ecole nationale supérieure d’architecture Paris‑Malaquais for nearly seven years. Missions to Canada and Egypt left a deep impression on him and shaped his taste for the representation of landscape.
Laurent Letourmy’s work is contemplative and constructed. The artist is directly inspired by nature to recompose drawings and watercolors.
His circular views entitled Pleines Visions explore the diversity of landscapes captured in their totality. Renewing the principle of a representation centered on the observer, his 360° views are inspired by both perspective techniques and « radar » imagery. The space is reconstituted around the observer as if to sensitize him to the environment and arouse emotion.
In addition, Laurent Letourmy creates linocut evoking in a synthetic and poetic way the elements that make up nature : animals, singular sites, details… Almost exclusively in black and white and of square format, these very pure visions seem to translate the artist’s desire to draw the images towards signs and symbols with a sometimes playful approach, particularly through the Bestiary suite.
