Eugène BÉJOT

Trained at the Académie Julian (where he became friends with Ibels, among others), Eugène Béjot learned his craft as an engraver under Henri Guérard. He also benefited from the guidance of etching masters such as Bracquemond, Buhot, and Seymour Haden. Béjot’s entire body of work is devoted to urban landscapes, particularly those of Paris: moving away from the picturesque views cherished by the Romantics, the artist took a special interest in wide-open spaces and glimmers of light, and the Seine was among his favorite subjects. Béjot produced just over four hundred etchings, among which the famous series La Seine à Paris, Les Bateaux de Paris, and Les Arrondissements de Paris stand out.
