Michel JOULÉ

Michel Joulé studied in Paris at the École Estienne, then at the École Normale Supérieure de l’Enseignement Technique in Cachan. One of his first exhibitions took place in 1978 at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lille. He exhibited alongside ten other painters in a show centered on a guest artist: André Marfaing—a pivotal encounter, much like his meetings with Ladislas Kijno and Roman Cieslewicz. He worked for many years in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region and taught art history and graphic design at the École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués in Roubaix. In addition to his work as a painter, he also created numerous book and magazine covers, as well as artists’ books. The connections he maintained with printers (such as screen printer Pierre Vandrotte) and writers (Philippe Bonnefis, Lucien Vasselin, and Gérard Farasse) were particularly important to him.
