Rajendra DHAWAN
New Delhi 1936 – Paris 2012
The artist enrolled at the College of Art in Delhi in 1953 and then continued his studies in Belgrade in the early 1960s. Upon returning to his homeland and eager to contribute to the revival of the Indian art scene, he founded the group The Unknowns. In 1970, he left India for good to settle in Paris, where he enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts. Rajendra Dhawan’s work consists of contemplative interior landscapes in warm, soft hues. A subtle dialogue between silence and movement can be observed in his work, lending it a timeless and even spiritual quality.
