Erik DESMAZIÈRES

The son of a diplomat, Erik Desmazières was born in Rabat in 1948. Although he graduated from the Paris Institute of Political Studies in 1971, he decided to pursue a career in the arts. Enrolled in evening classes offered by the City of Paris, he was introduced to printmaking by Jean Delpech. The young artist’s encounter with Philippe Mohlitz led to his introduction in 1972 to the New York art dealer Andrew Fitch: it was then that Desmazières’ career took off. The artist, recognized by Michel Random as one of the leading representatives of the “Parisian visionaries,” has since exhibited his drawings and numerous etchings in galleries and museums around the world. Desmazières has been president of the Society of French Painters and Engravers since 2006; he was admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts on April 9, 2008.
