Jean Baptiste DANGUIN
Fontenas 1823 - Paris 1894
A student of Vibert at the Beaux-Arts in Lyon and then of Orsel in Paris, he won the second Prix de Rome in engraving in 1850. Alongside his studies, he took part in the decoration of Notre-Dame de Lorette alongside his master Victor Orsel, from whom he engraved many works. His skill in the art of engraving led him to specialise in this technique, to which he devoted himself exclusively from 1857 onwards. In 1860, he replaced his former master Victor Vibert as professor of engraving at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lyon.
