Hippolyte BELLANGE
1800-1866
A painter, engraver, lithographer and draughtsman, Bellangé was a prolific artist with a considerable body of work, known mainly for his military subjects and genre scenes. Despite his father’s reluctance, he began his training in the studio of Antoine-Jean Gros in 1816. Befriending his elder brother Nicolas-Toussaint Charlet, Charlet encouraged him to turn to the still new technique of lithography, which brought him some success.
