Jean-Robert ANGO
1710-1773
Jean-Robert Ango is a prolific and mysterious artist. Nothing is known about his origins, from his date of birth to his training. Through Julien de Parme’s account, we know he was in Naples in March 1761, then in Rome during August of the same year, where we lose track of him in 1773. The research conducted by Sarah Boyer clarified the understanding of the artist and pointed out the homogeneity of his corpus. Nearly exclusively constituted of drawings, especially copies after masters and antiquity, Ango’s work shows a predilection for red chalk.
