Robert Picault was a well-known paintings restorer in Paris during the 18th century. Our print bears an old annotation with pen and ink on the reverse: Picault est le premier qui ait mis sur toile les // tableaux sur bois. C’est lui qui à fait cette// opération sur le St. Michel de Raphaël. (Picault is the first who transfered paintings on wood panels on canvas. He is the one who did this on Raphaello’s St. Michael.)
