Paul CEZANNE
1839 - 1906
Small Bathers
1896-1897
Original lithograph in colours with points de repérage in the centre of the lateral margins
235 × 294 mm, margins 280 × 355 mm
Very fine and fresh trial proof on odd china paper of the final state with the colours added to the key stone in black, of the first edition, before the stone reduced to 224 x 275 mm, before the colours slightly changed, before the borders of the composition evened and before the publication of 100 impressions on laid China paper in L’Album d’estampes originales de la Galerie Vollard en 1897, printed by Clot and coming directly from his workshop.
The black lines of this composition were drawn by Cézanne directly on the lithographical stone. The artist coloured with watercolour some impressions in black, giving this way models for colouring of the print. It’s Auguste Clot, Vollard’s favourite publisher, who under Cézanne’s control added colours to this final lithographical version.
