The family company, backed by four generations of passionate and demanding professionals, is now an institution in the art market both in France and abroad, whether in the area of expertise or the sale of works on paper. This quality requires an informed eye, fine knowledge of the history of art and a great understanding of the market.
Four Generations of Experts and Dealers
As recognized professionals in France and abroad, the directors Sylvie Tocci Prouté and Annie Martinez Prouté give opinions free of charge, provide estimates and advise collectors.
The gallery is a member of:
– International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA)
– Syndicat National des Antiquaires (SNA)
– Chambre Syndicale de l’Estampe, du Dessin et du Tableau (CSEDT)
– Syndicat national de la Librairie Ancienne et Moderne (SLAM)
As independent experts, Sylvie Tocci Prouté and Annie Martinez Prouté have been given the authority by the Syndicat National des Antiquaires (SNA) to certify the authenticity of all the prints exhibited at the Biennale des Antiquaires held at the Grand Palais, Paris.
The gallery has a major library and a large collection of related documentation, built up over more than a century, which is used daily for research and identification. Thanks to its regular contacts with the greatest experts and authors of catalogue raisonnés, the Galerie Paul Prouté can offer its clients detailed advice and thorough study of works.
Two thousand new sheets offered for sale each year
The most recent acquisitions are listed in two to three different catalogues published in June and in December each year. They complement stock that amounts to more than ten thousand objects. Quality, authenticity, and rarity, as well as good condition, are the main criteria sought by the gallery which only sells original works or excellent reproductive prints.
An essential actor in the field of prints and drawings, the gallery exhibits at several events such as in Paris, the Salon du Dessin and the Salon de l’Estampe et du Dessin–two Parisian salons of which it is a founding member–and in New York, the Print Fair, offering each time a broad selection of drawings and prints.
Among Prouté’s clients, French museums and major international institutions–European, American, Russian, Asian and Australian–are to be found, as well as a very large number of private collectors and art market professionals.
Looking for exceptional pieces
The Galerie Paul Prouté regularly buys works on paper, drawings and original or reproductive prints of the 15th to the 21st century, from individuals who wish to part with them. Annie and Sylvie Prouté have been helped for nearly eighteen years by their two assistants: Anna Zablocki and Jérôme Maingard. Open to everyone, the gallery shares its knowledge, its erudition and its experience from over 140 years, available to all who are passionate about works on paper.
