This watercolour, dated September 1916, is one of Rivière’s last drawings depicting Brittany. The previous month, he had sketched the same windmill as the one visible in the distance, situated on a ridge at Cap de la Chèvre, south of Morgat on the Crozon Peninsula (Henri Rivière, La Bretagne, aquarelles inédites, St Rémy de Provence, Impression du Ponant, Équinoxe, Sept 2004, p. 153).
