François-Auguste RAVIER
Lyon 1814 – Morestel 1895
Sunrise in La Levaz, Morestel
After 1867
Watercolor and lead pencil lines
200 × 290 mm
Signed lower right in brown ink F A Ravier.
In this watercolor, Ravier captures the fleeting moment when night gives way to morning and the light of dawn gradually appears. Despite the small size of the work, the artist succeeds in evoking a sense of immensity and, with great economy of means, conveys the subtle exploration of light effects that characterizes his work. We would like to thank Ms. Christine Boyer for her assistance in drafting this description.
