Normand went to Pompeii in the summer of 1849 to prepare his third year Envoi, for which he proposed a Restauration de la Maison du Faune in 1850. This sheet shows the famous path located north-west of the city, beyond the surrounding walls, which was one of the first cleared areas of Pompeii and one of the most frequently depicted.
