This portrait of a seated woman painted in 1925 could represent Anne Fonsallaz, one of the artist’s recurring models in the 1920s and 1930s. The figure of Anne can also be seen in Portrait d’Anne Assise, painted in 1927. In 1925, André Lhote produced a second canvas similar to this gouache on paper, which is now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes.
