Georges LEMMEN
Schaerbeek (Belgique) 1865 – Uccle (Belgique) 1916
A woman lying down, stroking her cat
1907
Pastel and gouache
248 × 323 mm
Dated in lead pencil in the upper right corner March 24 // 1907
Artist’s monogram stamp in the upper right corner (not described in Lugt).
The presence of the bench and the woman with her hair in a bun echoes the oil on cardboard painting Le Thé (Madame Georges Lemmen). Taken together, these elements suggest that this drawing may depict a familiar, everyday scene featuring Lemmen’s wife and their cat, Moes.
