Berger faisant rentrer ses moutons
Black chalk and highlights of white chalk on brown paper
439 × 363 mm
Signed with black chalk on the bottom left Ch. Jacque
Charles Jacque depicted the subject of the flock of sheep going in or out on several occasions. He completed two etchings on this theme : La rentrée and La sortie des moutons (1876), both close to this composition. Additionally, the movement of the sheperdess’ arm resembles the one in the oil on canvas Le retour du troupeau, at the Tweed Museum of Art à Duluth, Minnesota.
