Marcel Gromaire produced a number of drawings of female nudes in the 1920s and 1930s, recognisable by the many jerky black strokes and his distinctive way of rendering shadows. The composition of this drawing is similar to that of an etching on zinc produced by the artist in 1925, also depicting a seated nude woman.
