Amélie Beaury-Saurel is a student at the Académie Julian, then the only place where women and foreigners can learn. A successful portrait painter, she is also in charge of the women’s atelier at the Academy. On the death of her husband, the founder Rodolphe Julian, she took over the management of the school.
