Beginning in 1877, Appian discovered Collioure, whose Mediterranean landscapes became a major source of inspiration. There, he produced numerous views of harbors, cliffs, and coastal paths, as well as landscapes of the surrounding area, particularly in Argelès-sur-Mer and Port-Vendres. This drawing, with its cliffs, sailboats, and Mediterranean atmosphere, could thus be linked to the works he created in Collioure and its surroundings.
