Our drawing, depicting the coastline of Brusc, a small fishing hamlet, bears witness to the painter’s attachment to aquatic environments. It would appear that Appian first set up his easel in the region in 1882, during a stay at Les Sablettes, west of Toulon harbor. The landscape artist returned a second time in 1886, this time prospecting with his son as far as Le Brusc1. The presence of the hunter in his boat also reflects another of the fusinist’s favorite themes.
