Perhaps drawn after Hubert Robert, definitly imitating his manner, this landscape depicts Tivoli, with the temple of Vesta on the heights. As usual, Ango uses a greasy and thick red chalk to define shapes, repeating some of the strokes in places. Any clumsiness – due in particular to a slightly flawed perspective – is reduced by the skillful use of areas of clean paper. Copyist first, Ango makes reference to the masters and surprisingly signs his drawing « Annibale Roberti« . The orientation of the last figure of the date – which is inclined horizontally – can be found on other sheets, which appear to be other copies from Robert.
