William WYLD
1806 - 1889
Initially a merchant with a predisposition for drawing, William Wyld made the decisive encounter with Horace Vernet during a trip to France. He traveled to Italy, Algeria, Egypt and France regularly. Recognized in England, he was invited in 1852 by Queen Victoria to her residence in Balmoral, Scotland to make drawings. Wyld participated in the Salon in Paris, proposing works in the Orientalist movement. He was also close to artists in vogue under the July Monarchy such as Paul Delaroche and Ary Scheffer. He died at the age of 83 in Paris.
