Stefan KILAR

Student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest between 1952 and 1955, and then at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris between 1956 and 1961, Stéphane Kilar is an artist who distinguishes himself by his mastery of engraving as much as of sculpture. If the materials he uses for the latter differ (wood, granite, aluminum or bronze), the forms that he summons in his compositions are not without reminding his engraved work. In his compositions, circles, squares, spheres, triangles and other geometric variations cease to be only formal means and become the « symbols of the cosmic universe ».
