Elève et ami d’Eugène Isabey, Hervier fut stylistiquement très influencé par l’approche sensible de son maître envers la nature, notamment à travers le rendu pictural de la lumière et des variations atmosphériques. C’est en sillonnant durant toute sa carrière les paysages normands que son inspiration et sa production artistique fut la plus féconde.
