Eugène CICERI
1813 - 1890
Pierre-Luc-Charles Cicéri was a protean artist: a painter, theatre decorator, landscape artist and caricaturist, he was also a pupil of the architect François-Joseph Bélanger before becoming chief decorator at the Paris Opera. He subsequently held official positions for King Jerome of Westphalia, and then for King Charles X. Cicéri is also famous for his caricatures, his prolific production of watercolour landscapes – to which the present work belongs – and his lithographic illustrations for Baron Taylor’s Voyages pittoresques et romantiques dans l’ancienne France. Finally, he was the father of the artists Eugène Cicéri and Ernest Cicéri.
