Firstly, Degas transferred a final state impression of the composition of Après le bain II on a larger lithographic stone. Then he added, on the left, a rounded chair back and, on the right a figure of a servant, creating this way the first state of the Après bain III. For the second state of Après le bain III, the artist transferred this composition on the smaller stone, removing at the same time the chair and the servant figure, leaving the bather alone on the left part of the sheet.
